Sycamore Is the Place to Be This April
The off-season is officially over. If you have been sitting on the bench staring at your hull, it is time to load up the trailer. The Atlanta Model Boaters are hosting the 2026 IMPBA Atlanta Spring Nationals on April 18-19. The event is going down at SOWEGA Pond in Sycamore, Georgia. This is not a practice lap. This is a full-sanctioned race where the best in the district show up to find out who actually did the work over the winter. If you are not there, you are already behind in the points race for the season.
Preparation Is Not Optional
Spring racing in Georgia means variable conditions. You can have glass-calm water in the morning and a chop that will test your trim tabs by the afternoon. Your Zenoah needs to be dialed in for the Georgia humidity. Do not show up with a tune from last year and expect it to hold. Check your water cooling lines for cracks. Re-grease your drive cables. Sharpen and balance your props. SOWEGA Pond is a fast surface, but it is unforgiving to guys who cut corners on maintenance. We have seen too many heats lost to a five-dollar part that should have been replaced in March.
The Logistics of Winning
Registration for this event closes on April 10. If you are reading this and haven’t entered on RCRacingEvents.com, you have zero time to waste. The Atlanta crew runs a tight deck, but you have to be in the system to run. Open water starts Friday morning, April 17. That is your window to read the water and adjust your needles. Classes require at least five boats to make a start, so bring your backup hulls and get your club mates on the line. The more boats we put on the water, the harder the racing gets. That is why we do this.
